What, exactly is Waitestone?

An unusual, varied stone of Rhyolite, Chert, Botryoidal Hematite, Common Opal and Precious Opal, Waitestone is found in the Waite’s Wee Treat Mine deep in the forest of Central Oregon. It is the matrix stone for the highly prized precious opal that has been mined there since the 70’s, but is a very fascinating and workable stone in itself.

Where Can I get Waitestone?
The Waite’s Wee Treat Mine offers cut slices as well as cabochons on their website. Often GrandmaRocks has cabs for sale on her Facebook page.
A few times during the season the mine offers free open digs where you can load up on Waitestone.
